Slow Cooked Spaghetti Sauce

1 lb. ground beef or bulk Italian sausage
1 medium onion, chopped
2 cans (14-1/2 ounces each) diced tomatoes, undrained
8 ounce can tomato sauce
6 ounce can tomato paste
1 bay leaf
1 Tablespoon brown sugar
4 garlic cloves, minced
1 to 2 teaspoons dried basil
1 to 2 teaspoons dried oregano
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 to 1 teaspoon dried thyme

Cook beef or sausage with onion and drain. Combine meat with the rest of the ingredients in slow cooker and cook on low for 7-8 hours. 6-8 servings
